As of 17 July 2023, NCT Dream (a well known and much loved K-Pop sensation) have released a new album, their third, titled “ISTJ”, which, judging from the amazing 4 million pre-orders, is poised to become their biggest yet. The physical album will be released on 18 August in Europe – just in time for my birthday!
Album title – ISTJ
The title takes its name from one of the MBTI personality types (a popular online personality test) and consists of 10, equally catchy songs. The beats are great! The album as a whole is a level up from previous albums and is the group really flexes their ‘vocal prowess’ and distinct personalities across a vibrant melting pot of R&B, hip-hop and 2000’s inspired electronic-pop music
Side information: A person who has the personality type ISTJ is a ‘Logistician’ and is someone with the Introverted, Observant, Thinking, and Judging personality traits. These people tend to be reserved yet willful, with a rational outlook on life. They compose their actions carefully and carry them out with methodical purpose.
Title track
The title track is ISTJ & was composed and written by renowned K-pop hit-maker Kenzie. The song which is an addictive, hybrid hip-hop and dance track is also a unique take on a love story – and presents a narrative of getting to know someone for who they truly are as a person instead of relying on MBTI personality types to define them. I think a lot of people will love it !

SOS is my favourite song on the album. I can’t sit still while it’s playing – the music in the chorus is so good and the song as whole, in my opinion best showcases how different how each band member has their own unique style. The songs are all great though – the whole album is really catchy. I have a feeling I will be listening to this a lot!
About NCT Dream
For those who may not yet be familiar with this band, NCT Dream is made up of seven members: Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle & Jisung.
The ‘NCT’ part of the band’s name stands for the acronym for “Neo Culture Technology” and ‘DREAM’ part reflects the subgroup’s commitment to releasing music that reflects youth, adolescence and growth. The band made its debut in August 2016 with the hit single ‘Chewing Gum’ (it’s so catchy – and I don’t recommend listening to it unless you are prepared to have it stuck in your head for ages after). The single did well in the charts, peaking at No.2 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart.
Since their debut, the group gone on to secure themselves a place on the international music scene and achieved major commercial success through their 2019 extended play “We Boom” and the release of their first studio album “Hot Sauce,” which was named Best Album at the 31st Seoul Music Awards. Their second album “Glitch Mode” (released in 2022) broke the group’s own personal record by reaching 2 million (!) pre-orders – making them the second best-selling album under SM Entertainment.
NCT DREAM have also been named Billboard’s “21 Under 21: Music’s Next Generation” for three consecutive years (2018 – 2020) and were the only Asian artist on TIME Magazine’s “25 Most Influential Teens of 2018.”
